Blog Entry (4.1) Weekly Updates. Supernatural Dance (Capoeira)

Now that I have confirmation from my professor and classmates to go ahead with my research project on the supernatural dance called  Capoeira, I will first and foremost look for the closest institition in my community and sign up for classes. Well indeed, I was able to find one in Queens, Astoria. The instructor's name is Coruja and we had a lengthy discussion on the reason for my call and the future looks bright. The most significant reason for this move is not just to know the theoretical aspect of my resarch but also to be able to achieve some of the physical gist behind the art. It seem a little expensive than I thought but I have to do this once and for all. I am a martial artist with lots of experience on Shotukan karate but now I am taking it beyond the duty of self defence to supernatural dancing defence.

I think, it is another way to expand my knowledge in the field of art and also to incorperate a worldwide perception on how things can be done differently. Furthermore, I understand from reading some of the history behind the scene that this dance has somewhat to do with slaves from Africa during the eighteenth century. Like any other African I believe this must be exciting. I am not sure if I have such amount of reflex input which I see other have while partaking in the dance but I will do my best as time goes. I would like to suspend my whole body in the air like I see some of them do and be able to display the many stunts that they do. I will take clips of myself entering the Dujo with no skill and after weeks of training I will show clips of what I learned during those periods. I hope my viewers will enjoy this epic drill of a dance fight.

These are my findings for this week 11/18/10
